WHIPPING

Pilate then ordered his soldiers to whip Jesus and nail Him to a cross. The soldiers placed a purple robe on him and a crown they had made with thorn branches, making fun of him, shouting “you king of the Jews!” They pretended to worship him and beat him with whips, later carrying him off to be nailed to a cross.
